There is noticeably lower latency between mouse actions, keyboard actions, and video performance. Windows interfaces with the hardware differently, and it is especially beneficial for FPS games. I would say yes, after trying it both ways myself. I'm actually considering drilling more holes right under the memory bank, then installing an external 80mm fan and jerryrigging it to my antec cooler, but the process takes me all day as I'm a complete amateur with a milling machine. I prefer a cool laptop that lasts a long time to a speedier one. The upside is that temps dropped 20 degrees C everywhere else, so I'm free to OC (with exception of memory) to my hearts content, though I only do it mildly. ![]() I have less airflow over the memory bank, so I have to reduce the clock of my GPU memory to keep temps in line. Now, air is pushed from the bottom of my lappy, straight to the back, and that's it. This was good for the gpu memory, but suboptimal for everything else. Priorly, air was sucked in through the back, over the memory bank of the gpu, effectively cooling it, then pushed back out through the back. My lappy 100% fan speed is about as loud as 7970s 65% fan speed, aka jet engine loud. I essentially created 2 fan intakes at the bottom, but lost the sound dampening the aluminum gave. ![]() I tooled around in my fathers machine shop and machined about 200 small holes in the bottom of my case right where the fans are.
